THE DEEP

1976

"There's more mysteries hidden by the sea than you or I can fathom and once in a while she unravels one..."

A young couple go to Bermuda on their honeymoon. They dive on the reefs offshore, looking for the wreck of a sunken ship. What they find lures them into a strange and increasingly terrifying encounter with past and present, a struggle for salvage and survival, along the floor of the sea, in the deep.

While Peter Benchley was writing his best-selling novel Jaws, he went diving on the reefs off Bermuda and became fascinated with what was being found there. A particular idea began to intrigue him...and that idea grew into The Deep, an adventure story about a dramatic attempt to unravel the mysteries of the sea, and how it forces two men and a woman to confront the mysteries within themselves - amid the perils of The Deep.
